Another couple approached my wife and I today in Penny's and started pitching the same 5 hours a week for an extra grand a month shit to us. What the fuck is up with this area?

I find NOVA to be a schizophrenic melting pot of just about everything.

They're sort of like a viral infestation. I don't miss that stuff one bit.

Seems to be a pretty good summation of the place. Hey, you coming to Oktoberfest?

I used to get those when I was front and center in a high-volume customer service environment.
A few times a year a frequent (usually quiet) customer would pull me aside, and I always expected the worst. Food poisoning, chipped tooth, or other complaint.. Nope, it was even worse.
Amway* cassette.**
They told me they had a "business opportunity" and wanted me to listen to it.
I had a 10 minute commute, so I threw it in the radio and listened to it out of respect. It was always the same old thing; non-descriptive "do you want to be your own boss?" "You're a winner." kind of bullshit. The next time I saw them, I would tell them, "Thank you, but I actually own these stores, and really have my hands full. Thanks for thinking of me" or some shit like that.
One guy gave it to me again a few years later.
Annoyed, I took it home and dumped it into my studio and laid a drum loop over it, then put it back on the cassette. About two or three minutes in, the bass dropped and it was now a sales rap.
*I assumed it was Amway - the sales pitch never gets to it, so I have no idea what they were.
**Yes, cassette. I'm old, OK?

Bits of North Carolina are like that too. It helps to think of them as purveyors of an extraordinarily terrible religion.

I always feel bad just straight up about-facing on someone, but I'm about to get to that point. People are getting way too pushy with it.

It was always tough for me because they were customers. For me, it's easy if they are strangers. First decline is polite but clear. If there's a need for a second one, it's showtime.
Now, if these people started handing literature to my employees while they were on the clock? I shut that shit down and ran them out out. Do not try to poach my employees from me while you're in my store. To me, that's the lowest of low.

Yup, Haha. It's a very....Interesting place.
I wasn't planning on going to an Oktoberfest though. I've been trying to keep myself from drinking, Haha.
